cleaningyour house, it is good to have some detergents around. Better be ready.
Youwill never know if that stain needs special attention.Get to know the
cleaning agents commonlyused in high pressure cleaning before pouring one in the
cleaning canister ofthe pressure washer. You are lucky because you can make some
on your own.Vinegar is one of the safe alternativesto chemical cleaners. It is
safe to use on woods and other natural surfaces dueto its weak acidity. It
removes small stains, grimes, mildews, dirt and moldswithout the harmful effects
of chemicals to people, pets and plants. It is alsoabsorbs unwanted smells,
making it a natural deodorizer. The most common is the white vinegar,but any
vinegar will do. Combine 30% of vinegar with 70% of cold water.
Pour itin the
pressure washerÂ’s cleaning canister. Wash and rinse.Detergent effectively breaks
down thestain buildup. A lot of pressure cleaning detergents is available at
homeimprovement stores but laundry detergent or dishwasher soap could make a
goodsubstitute. Mix 1/3 cup of detergent with water. Stir and pour to the
canister.Clean and rinse as usual. Then make sure to rinse the washerÂ’s wand and
nozzlewell to keep detergent from accumulating, thus preventing equipment
damage.Bleach brightens surfaces. It is powerfulin removing a big amount of
algae, mildews and molds. It also sanitizes makingit an effective bacteria and
micro-organism remover. Mix a cup with water andclean as usual. You may also add
a small amount to a detergent mix.Trisodium Phosphate removes outdoorgrime,
grease and fungus. The chemical, also known as TSP, is available at
homeimprovement stores. Add a ¼ cup of TSP to a gallon of water. Stir and pour
inthe canister. Wash and rinse as usual.Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves
andprotective mask while high pressure cleaning with chemicals. Do not point
thesprayer directly at people, pets and plants especially if the water
containschemicals.
Cover the plants with plastic when cleaning with chemicals.
Lastly,consult the manual regarding the use of cleaning agents. Some pressure
washersare very particular that having the wrong detergent might break it.
